Principle of Prophecy
Prophecy of Mohammad (pbuh)

"Mohammad is the Messenger of God."
Holy Qur’an (48:29)

Second only to the concept of unity in the Islamic Declaration of Faith is the statement that Mohammad (pbuh) is His Prophet.

"I bear witness that there is no other but God"
"I bear witness that Mohammad is the Messenger of God."

The injunction to believe in and obey Prophet Mohammad (pbuh) as the Messenger of God is repeatedly commanded.

"By the Qur’an, full of Wisdom, You are indeed one of the Messengers, On a Straight Path."
Holy Qur’an (36:2-4)

"Verily those who plight their fealty to thee do no less than plight their fealty to Allah. The Hand of Allah is over their hands. Then any one who violates his oath, does so to the harm of his own soul and any one who fulfils what he has covenanted with God, God will soon grant him a great reward."
Holy Qur’an (48:10)

Prophet Mohammad was sent as a universal Messenger, a witness, a bringer of Glad Tidings, and as a Warner to admonish us (25:56, 33:45, and 34:28).

"O Prophet - behold, We have sent thee as a witness [to the truth], and as a herald of glad tidings and a warner." (33:45)

He is to be respected and listened to, for "He rehearses the Signs of God, sanctifies, and instructs in Scripture and Wisdom" (3:164).

"Indeed, God bestowed a favor upon the believers when he raised up in their midst an apostle from among themselves, to convey His messages unto them, and to cause them to grow in purity, and to impart unto them the divine writ as well as wisdom - whereas before that they were indeed, most obviously, lost in error." (3:164)

The Holy Prophet is one who invites us to God’s Grace and is a Lamp spreading Light, following and obeying him brings us good:

"one who invites to God by His will, and as a light-giving beacon."
Holy Qur’an (33:46)

"All who obey Allah and the apostle are in the company of those on whom is the Grace of Allah, of the prophets , the sincere , the witnesses, and the Righteous; Ah! What a beautiful fellowship!" (4:69)

The essence of Prophecy is that God selected certain individuals through whom he has spoken. Through revelation, the person selected to be a Prophet becomes a conduit for the word of God, revealing His Word and His Will to humans. His level of purity is so high that the Word of God is not tainted by the clay through which it passes.

The existence of the Prophets, and their Prophecies, are clear indication of God’s love, mercy, forgiveness and compassion. The Prophets knew the way to God, and we should follow their way. Scholars look outside in their search for truth. Prophets look inside in their search for truth. Accessing the truth within our heart requires the Spiritual Teacher, who is to be found within ourselves, who knows the way and will lead us to the truth, and to true understanding of the Divine Revelation for our time and our place. Therefore, the principle of Prophecy is followed by the principle of Imamat.
